Why We Keep Our Professional Ceramic Coatings Professional
We helped pioneer the professional ceramic coating installer model in 2008. Here's why we remain committed to it today.
In 2008, Opti-Coat made a decision that helped shape the professional ceramic coating industry.
When Dr. David Ghodoussi developed our original silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic coating technology, we could have sold it directly to consumers, distributed it through dealerships, or built a network of qualified professional detailers.
We chose professional detailers.
Nearly two decades later, ceramic coating technology has evolved. Products have improved, application methods have become more efficient, and information is more accessible than ever.
But one thing hasn't changed: there's a difference between applying a ceramic coating and delivering a professional ceramic coating service.

Professional installation involves evaluating a vehicle's condition, correcting defects where appropriate, preparing surfaces properly, recommending suitable protection, managing customer expectations, and standing behind the finished work.
Making a coating easier to apply doesn't make those responsibilities less important.
At Opti-Coat, professional-only distribution has never been simply about restricting access to a product. It's about building a relationship between the manufacturer, the installer, and the customer—one built on technical expertise, workmanship, accountability, and trust.
That's why we established our professional installer program in 2008. And it's why we're sticking with it.
Professional Doesn't Mean Difficult to Apply
The ability to apply a ceramic coating and the ability to deliver a professional coating service are two different things.
Modern ceramic coatings have become more accessible, and skilled enthusiasts can achieve excellent results. We recognize that some enthusiasts possess knowledge and abilities that rival those of established professionals.
But professional authorization involves more than application technique.
A professional installer must understand paint systems, evaluate surface conditions, recognize existing defects, and determine the preparation necessary to achieve the desired result.
They must also communicate realistic expectations, explain proper maintenance, and take responsibility for the quality of their work.
A customer investing in years of paint protection deserves more than someone who knows how to apply a product. They deserve a professional who understands the complete process and stands behind the service.
Our professional coatings aren't reserved for authorized installers because we believe applying them should be unnecessarily complicated.
They're reserved for professionals because we believe the complete service deserves professional standards.
Advancements in coating technology should make professional installers more effective—not make professional standards irrelevant.
The Decision We Made in 2008
Opti-Coat's professional-only philosophy wasn't developed in response to today's coating market. It has guided our company since the introduction of our original professional ceramic coating.
Starting in 2004, Dr. David Ghodoussi, a PhD polymer and organic chemist with experience developing automotive clear-coat technologies, worked on the SiC chemistry that would eventually become Opti-Coat.
After years of development and testing, the technology was ready for its initial commercial introduction in 2008.
At that time, professional ceramic coating installer programs were not the established industry category they are today.
Opti-Coat helped pioneer that model in North America, with broader adoption developing during 2009 and 2010.
Rather than distributing the coating directly to consumers or relying primarily on automotive dealerships, we chose to build relationships with professional detailers.
We believed that combining original coating technology with skilled preparation, workmanship, and professional accountability offered customers the greatest value.
That decision helped establish a model that would eventually become widespread throughout the ceramic coating industry.
We didn't choose professional distribution because it was the industry standard. We helped establish that standard because we believed it was the right approach.
And nearly two decades later, we still do.
Professional Standards Are a Shared Responsibility
The best chemistry in the world cannot compensate for improper preparation or poor workmanship.
That's why becoming an Opti-Coat Authorized Installer involves more than purchasing a coating.
We review businesses applying to join our professional network, require an installer agreement and proof of business liability insurance, and establish expectations for the businesses representing Opti-Coat.
We provide technical resources, training opportunities, and manufacturer support because professional development doesn't end when an installer becomes authorized.
Our professional ceramic coatings—Opti-Coat Pro, Pro Plus, and Pro3—carry warranties extending up to 10 years, with an optional lifetime warranty for Pro3 under applicable maintenance requirements.
Our standard professional ceramic coating warranties do not require annual inspections or topper applications to maintain coverage during their respective warranty periods.
These commitments reflect a shared responsibility.
Our installers are responsible for preparation, application, workmanship, and customer service.
Our responsibility as a manufacturer is to develop quality products, provide technical support, stand behind our warranty commitments, and maintain the integrity of the professional program.
That includes making difficult decisions when an authorized installer's workmanship or treatment of customers fails to meet our standards.
Professional authorization isn't simply access to a product. It's a commitment to the standards customers should expect from the manufacturer and the installer.
Developed by a Chemist. Manufactured by Us.
Professional installers also deserve to know who is responsible for the technology they're putting their reputations behind.
Optimum Polymer Technologies was founded in 2001 by Dr. G, whose research led to Opti-Coat's proprietary SiC ceramic coating technology.
Unlike brands that rely on outside companies to formulate or manufacture their products, we maintain direct control over research, formulation, manufacturing, and quality control at our facility in Memphis, Tennessee.
Our SiC chemistry represents a different formulation approach from conventional SiO₂-based coatings, developed with an emphasis on long-term durability and resistance to environmental exposure.
In-house manufacturing alone doesn't guarantee a superior product. The chemistry, expertise, and standards behind it matter.
But developing and manufacturing our own products means we're directly responsible for the technology our installers use.
We're not simply putting our name on someone else's coating. We're responsible for the chemistry behind ours.
What Our Customers Tell Us
Our commitment to professional installers isn't based on philosophy alone. It's reinforced by the experiences of customers who have chosen Opti-Coat.
In voluntary post-installation customer surveys collected between October 2023 and October 2026, respondents reported overwhelmingly positive experiences.
| Customer survey result | Percentage |
|---|---|
| Rated their experience High or Very High | 100% |
| Rated their experience Very High | 83.7% |
| Would recommend Opti-Coat to others | 98.4% |
When customers ranked the factors influencing their purchasing decisions, installer reputation was the most frequently selected top priority.
That finding reinforces something we've believed since 2008: the professional applying the coating is a critical part of the value customers receive.
Customers aren't simply choosing a product. They're choosing a business they trust to evaluate their vehicle, recommend appropriate protection, deliver quality workmanship, and stand behind the results.
Our chemistry provides the foundation. Our installers bring the preparation, skill, judgment, and customer relationships that turn that technology into a professional service.
And the relationship works both ways. A professional installer's reputation builds confidence in Opti-Coat, while Opti-Coat's technology, warranty commitments, and manufacturer support help reinforce the installer's reputation.
Professional installation isn't simply how we distribute our coatings. It's part of what makes the Opti-Coat experience valuable.
Professional by Design
The detailing industry will continue to evolve. New technologies will emerge, products will improve, and application processes will become more efficient.
We intend to remain at the forefront of that progress.
But progress doesn't require abandoning the principles that built our professional program.
We respect the independent businesses that have invested their time, resources, and reputations in delivering professional ceramic coating services.
Those businesses deserve a manufacturer that takes its own responsibilities just as seriously.
Our ambition has never been to build the largest possible installer network. It's to build one recognized for the quality of its technology and the professionalism of the businesses representing it.
To the installers who already represent Opti-Coat: you've helped build the reputation our brand carries. We're proud to stand behind you.
And to the professionals who share our philosophy but haven't yet joined us: we invite you to discover the chemistry, company, and community behind Opti-Coat.
We chose professional detailers in 2008 because we believed the technology deserved skilled workmanship, responsible businesses, and long-term relationships built on trust.
Nearly two decades later, that commitment hasn't changed.
We helped establish the professional ceramic coating installer model. We're committed to preserving the standards that make it valuable.
