Silicon Carbide (SiC) vs Silicon Dioxide (Si02) vs Graphene Ceramic Coatings

The most common types of ceramic coatings on the market are made from Silicon Carbide (SiC), Silicon Dioxide (Si02) and Graphene. SiC or Silicon Carbide is industrial diamond. Si02 or Silicon Dioxide is industrial quartz. Graphene is derived from graphite.

Our coatings are made from Silicon Carbide (SiC) industrial diamond. SiC ceramic coatings have a durability of 10+ years with a single application. If properly maintained, SiC Ceramic Coatings like Opti-Coat Pro, last the lifetime of the paint. SiC is harder, longer lasting, and more durable than Silicon Dioxide (Si02) and Graphene coatings.

Opti-Coat is the original ceramic coating. It was first ceramic coating released in North America. We've always formulated our coatings with Silicon Carbide (SiC). It is more expensive and more difficult to produce than Si02 but SiC chemistry makes for a durable one time application. We have Professional Installers around the world that have documented original installations lasting more than 10 years and 100k+ miles with no maintenance other than regular washing.

Most coatings are made with Silicon Dioxide (Si02) or industrial quartz. Quartz, by its nature is a less durable coating material than diamond. A standard Si02 based ceramic coating will have a life expectancy of 1-2 years before it needs a topper or refresher to maintain effectiveness. Our coatings do not require toppers, refreshers, or any type of specific annual maintenance aside from washing.

Graphene is a ceramic coating additive that became popular several years ago. Graphene does not bond to paint. It has been primarily added to Si02 based ceramic coatings or as an additive to retail detailing products sold in big-box stores. Graphene is not currently used in most professional level warrantied ceramic coatings.
